Coursework

This page highlights a few of the courses at St. Olaf College, which have been most beneficial in furthering my career.

ART 246

Manhattan Art Interim

Immersed for a month in the thriving art hub of New York, I had the opportunity to interview successful artists in a variety of different artistic careers. This trip opened my eyes to the many different paths there are to 'making it' in the arts as well as the usefulness of an art and management background.

ART 229

Arts Management

This course taught me how to combine my art with business and its different manifestations. I learned about jobs in the arts in both the for-profit and non-profit sectors, how to manage an arts organization, the process of hiring and firing employees, and what employers look for for in potential candidates. This class also gave me grant writing experience.

ART 340

Topics: Public Art

This art class taught me how to navigate the public art sphere and about the many opportunities and methods there are for funding public art. This class also gave me the chance to apply to make a public art mural, experience the jurying process, and once chosen, become the project manager of the artwork until completion.
